Hopsfest 2015 date is set for last Saturday in August

November 14, 2014

Save the date for Hops & Flip Flops 2015. Saturday, August 29th.

After looking at the calendar and taking feedback on the event this year we decided that going forward our annual craft beer festival will be the last Saturday in August. The early and middle of the month are very full with events in Indiana already (e.g. Dig IN, Brew Haven, etc) so we decided to move to later in the month. Some years this will mean the event will be Labor Day weekend but in most years, included 2015, it is simply the last Saturday in August.

We also will be moving the event to our new brewery at 1151 Main Street and holding the event outside going forward. The Dallara IndyCar facility was great but the plan was always to host the event at our place once.  In addition the event will continue to be kept on the smaller side so we can focus on bringing in a great mix of local, regional and national breweries who know and love hoppy beers as well as other fun styles.

2014 Beer lineup for Taps & Treats at Mass Avenue Pub

October 27, 2014

Announcing the beer lineup for our Taps & Treats tap takeover event on Tuesday (tomorrow) at Mass Avenue Pub. We will be pouring fresh Muse plus Lift Off IPA, Rip Cord Double IPA and just to celebrate the return of Muse Belgian Golden Ale and we have a new Rare Devil Small Batch beer we are bringing that is based on Muse.

We are very excited to share a special cellar version of Muse that we prepared especially for what is our first fall release of Muse Belgian Golden Ale. It’s unfiltered and then dry hopped with a bit of Belma whole hops. Belma is an experimental hop that has brings flavors and aromas of strawberries, watermelon and citrus. It complements the Belgian pear/apple yeast esters in Muse very nicely. There is 1 keg so we hope you are able to join us to try it and enjoy it!

Muse. It’s back. We love making this Belgian style golden strong ale and we know lots of people look forward to the annual January release.

Due to popular demand we are bringing back Muse early. Next week it ships and it will be available on draft across the Daredevil distribution footprint of central and southern Indiana starting the week of October 27th.

Muse is a golden ale that displays a classic fruity and spicy fermentation character with a backdrop of the highest quality Belgian Pilsner Malt and noble hops for a refreshingly fun, and intriguingly unique balance of inspiration and respect for the classic Belgian Golden Ale style.

We also have a few Muse release events planned to celebrate with all of you.

Construction update, Hopsfest is coming, Rip Cord DIPA returns and more!

August 12, 2014

It has been awhile since we posted a note so we thought this was a good time to catch people up on everything going on for team Daredevil. First, that you to everyone who has been enjoying our beers. You make everything we are doing possible! Thank you!

Construction update for 1151 Main Street, Speedway

It takes a village to build a brewery or something like that it seems. We are very excited to be building a new production brewery from the ground up. After several months of work we received final zoning approval on August 6th. We will now start to see some activity at the site and the official ground breaking is 10 am on Friday, August 22nd.

Our plans include a 10,000 sq. ft. production brewery with a tap room and outside seating on the 2.0-acre site. Once we fill out the space we will have increased our production capacity by about 4x to about 12,000 bbls per year which means a lot more flexibility for draft and canned beers. We will not be making anywhere near that capacity in the near future as we want to grow responsibly by maintaining our high standards of quality. If we out grow the new space in a few years there is room to more than double the phase one plans in the future.

We hope to be moving in toward the end of the year or early 2015 and we will first focus on getting the production brewery up and running since we will be moving our existing equipment as well as adding new equipment. The tap room will be opening later after we have the brewery humming so we can increase production. As always we will do our best to keep everyone informed.

HopsFest is Friday, August 22nd so get your tickets

The summer has really gone fast for us and we have been at many events. When we decided to start the Hops & Flip Flops Craft Beer Festival it was so we could have something as an end of summer celebration. The event combines a craft beer festival with a street festival and a lineup of craft breweries that we do not get to see together very often in the Indianapolis metro area. Learn more and purchase tickets online at http://hopsfest.eventbrite.com or in person at Lino’s Speedway or both Great Fermentations locations.

Our limited release Rip Cord Double IPA returns at HopsFest

Yes, it’s back. We have brewed the next release of Rip Cord and it coming along nicely. It will first be tap’d at HopsFest and then into our full distribution across Indiana the week of August 25th.

Lift Off IPA cans availability

Last we want to answer a question we get a lot which is “where do I find Lift Off cans, my store always seems to be out?”.  A lot of these cans go to our on premise accounts so only a portion of each shipment make it to liquor stores. In addition, once they get to liquor stores they sell out very, very quickly. We have been trying to post on Twitter/Facebook when shipments go out and we answer questions about what stores get shipments if you email us or ask on Twitter/Facebook. The main thing to understand is that we are at capacity for production until we open the new brewery. So, until then please be nice to the store employee if they are out of Lift Off, see if they will take your name to let you know when more is in or just contact us to ask when we ship to your area next.

Daredevil Brewing is Expanding Again!

February 28, 2014

We are excited to announce we have decided to build a new 10,000 square foot production brewery and open our first taproom at a 2.0-acre site that we have agreed to develop in Speedway, Indiana. Read the press release from Speedway)

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Engines!

We spent the last year looking across the greater Indianapolis metro area in addition to considering options near our current location in Shelby County for our next brewery location.  Last fall we became aware of a redevelopment opportunity on Main Street, Speedway. After a lot of due diligence we decided the brownfield site at 1101 Main Street was a great fit for our current and future business needs and that it would provide us a location where we could continue to grow for years to come.

Timeline for Construction

We have a lot to do. Right now we are working on finalizing the building design, interior design, and determining the new brewery equipment to include in the initial expansion. We will be very transparent during construction (think web cam!) so we can keep people up to date on our progress. For now plan on construction beginning later this year and for us to be fully operational within the next twelve months. During the construction we will continue to operate the existing Shelbyville brewery.

We will close with a big thank you to all the supporters, contractors, businesses, bars, restaurants, and public officials too numerous to name that we have worked with over the last three years.  It’s time to Lift Off! Again!

Daredevil Brewing Anniversary Dinner Podcast & JWP name

January 23, 2014

First, we taped a podcast right before our anniversary dinner at Black Market on Monday. Only 56 people could attend the sold out and wait listed dinner, but we went over the entire beer lineup and the tasting courses so listening is almost like you were there! And several of the beers are still on if you want to get over to Black Market very soon!

Thanks Indy Beer News we had fun recording it!

Second, we have had quite a few questions about the background of the J.W.P. American Stout name and wanted to share the story. You also can listen to the podcast mentioned above at here it.

image

The basic story is that one of our co-head brewers, Bill, spent time in the military. About once a month they would do deployments over a day or two and the only food they were provided were the military “MREs” (aka meals ready to eat).

Being young men they needed lots of calories but truthfully the meals were not always tasty. They got creative and combined the sugar, cream and hot chocolate or coffee into a liquid that had a consistency something similar to pudding. Fast forward a few years later when Bill was working on a new stout recipe and he used that chocolate and espresso memory for inspiration.

J.W.P. American Stout is the commercial version of this original beer recipe. It’s meant to be a balanced American Stout with a good amount of hops and tons of complex flavors.
